Vacuum Cleaner Filter Upgrade: How Does UNM ePTFE Filter Media Maintain Strong Suction?

A decline in suction power after a vacuum cleaner has been in use for some time is a major headache for many users. The root cause often lies not in the motor, but in the filter media. Traditional filter media and melt-blown fabric typically rely on depth filtration, where dust penetrates deep into the material. As dust accumulates, air resistance increases, causing suction power to naturally decline and potentially leading to secondary contamination.

UNM air purification filter media, featuring an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) microporous membrane at its core, offers a new solution for vacuum cleaner filters. The ePTFE membrane undergoes bidirectional stretching to form a three-dimensional mesh-like microporous structure, with approximately 1.4 billion micropores per square centimeter and a porosity of over 85%. It operates on the principle of “surface filtration,” where dust is trapped on the membrane’s surface rather than penetrating into the filter material. As a result, dust is removed more thoroughly, and the filter is less prone to clogging.

For vacuum cleaners, the advantages of UNM ePTFE filter media are primarily reflected in three aspects:

First, high filtration precision. For fine particles ranging from 0.1 to 0.2 micrometers, the capture efficiency reaches over 99.9995%, effectively trapping dust, pollen, PM2.5, and other particles, thereby reducing secondary pollution from exhaust air.

Second, low operating resistance. High porosity allows air to flow more smoothly; compared to traditional glass fiber or standard HEPA filter media, initial resistance can be reduced by more than 50%, helping the vacuum cleaner maintain stable suction while reducing noise and energy consumption.

Third, it is durable and washable. The ePTFE membrane features hydrophobicity, anti-adhesion, and chemical resistance. Where the structure permits, it can be washed with water or cleaned via reverse airflow; the microporous structure remains stable even after repeated cleaning, extending the filter cartridge replacement cycle and reducing operating costs.

As a manufacturer of ePTFE filter media, UNM offers support for membrane lamination, slitting, and customization, making it compatible with a variety of filtration configurations for household, commercial, and industrial vacuum cleaners. For vacuum cleaner brands seeking high suction power, long service life, and low maintenance costs, UNM ePTFE filter media represents a noteworthy upgrade option.
